Tom Lemkuil has been the farm foreman with Santa Barbara Blueberries at Restoration Oaks Ranch since 2003. Tom specializes in blueberries and cane berries, and has developed a very good working relationship with Mark Gaskell and the other small farm specialists at the UC Co-Operative Extension centered at UC Davis and San Luis Obispo.
The Jacks family has been operating the popular UPick blueberry farm since 2002. The fields are open to the public seasonally. Blueberry season generally runs from late April through early August. The raspberry and blackberry season runs from July through September or October. Tom also likes to surprise his UPickers with something a bit different to pick in the late summer and fall: different varieties of watermelon, very sweet cantaloupes, goose-neck squash, big ole' sunflowers, and other easy to pick veggies show up in the blueberry fields. Santa Barbara Blueberries does not use sprays or pesticides, and employs sustainable farming practices.
Tom and the Jacks family continue to look for ways to make Santa Barbara Blueberries a family-focused "UPick Paradise" on the Central Coast of California. With a great location right on the heavily traveled 101, Santa Barbara Blueberries gets visitors from all over the world. The farm has gotten great reviews from local press and in 2015 was even cited in USA Today as a place to go for UPick in the western states.
