An Invitation to a Worm-Ridden Field Day for Funders

As many of you already know, our Wild Farmlands Worm Farm team has been piloting an on-farm vermicasting, food waste reduction and climate resilience project in collaboration with Santa Barbara Blueberries for a few years now.  Just over the last year, we have built a medium-scale worm vermicasting system, recycled thousands of pounds of local food waste, and started applying liquid vermicast extract (a biologically rich living soil amendment) through our existing commercial farm fertigation system.

We are gauging the capacity of vermicast to replace synthetic fertilizers, its ability to improve the soil's fertility and its ability to build both the carbon and water holding capacity of food producing and ecologically declining lands. Among other benefits, vermicast solutions can improve crop and forage land soils while lowering fertilizer & composting costs, they can strengthen ecosystem restoration projects and they can revolutionize the way we recycle green waste directly back into our local food systems.

We are excited to share our progress with you. We are planning a site visit specifically for current an prospetive funders at Restoration Oaks Ranch on May 20th at 9:30 am. We expect the hands-on presentations and Q&A to go for about an hour and a half. We will be gathering outdoors and in a well-ventilated barn, and we'll respect any relevant Covid19 distancing guidance still in place at the time.

Audience: Funders & Prospective Funders
Date: May 20th
Time: 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.
Location: Restoration Oaks Ranch

You will hear from the stellar team managing our vermicasting project, hear about our progress to-date including some extremely exciting soil and pathogen reports, and see the vermicast equipment functioning at full capacity. We will also discuss our long-term food waste, climate, and ecosystem goals. There will be plenty of time to get your questions answered.
